US stocks closed lower, Dow Jones down 0.72%

At the close on the New York Stock Exchange, the Dow Jones fell 0.72%, the S&P 500 index fell 0.47%, and the NASDAQ Composite index fell 0.16%.

On Tuesday, the US statistics were also published. The number of new homes in the country, the construction of which was started in May, increased immediately by 21.7% compared with the revised figure in April and amounted to 1.631 million. Analysts at the same time expected a slight decrease in the index.

Salesforce Inc (NYSE:CRM) was the top performer in the Dow Jones Index today, up 5.21 points or 2.46% to close at 216.97. UnitedHealth Group Incorporated (NYSE:UNH) rose 10.90 points or 2.38% to close at 469.39. Merck & Company Inc (NYSE:MRK) rose 0.91 points or 0.83% to close at 110.23.

The least gainers were shares of Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC), which shed 1.37 points or 3.77% to end the session at 35.00. Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE) was up 4.05 points or 3.57% to close at 109.54, while Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) was down 7.62 points or 3.46 %) and finished trading at 212.37.

Among the S&P 500 index components gainers in today's trading were Generac Holdings Inc (NYSE:GNRC), which rose 7.89% to 128.84, Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA), which gained 5.34%. , to close at 274.45, and PayPal Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:PYPL), which rose 3.70% to close at 68.89.

The least gainers were SolarEdge Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:SEDG), which shed 7.71% to close at 255.36. Shares of Enphase Energy Inc (NASDAQ:ENPH) shed 5.40% to end the session at 171.99. Warner Bros Discovery Inc (NASDAQ:WBD) was down 4.77% to 12.19.

The leading performers in the NASDAQ Composite Index today were VCI Global Ltd (NASDAQ:VCIG), which rose 156.18% to 7.25, Evelo Biosciences Inc (NASDAQ:EVLO), which gained 46.42 % to close at 0.18, and Dice Therapeutics (NASDAQ:DICE), which rose 37.19% to close at 46.44.

The least gainers were Surgalign Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:SRGA), which shed 81.97% to close at 0.22. Shares of Dragonfly Energy Holdings Corp (NASDAQ:DFLI) shed 46.24% to end the session at 1.50. Hitek Global (NASDAQ:HKIT) dropped 40.18% to 6.03.

On the New York Stock Exchange, the number of securities that fell in price (2028) exceeded the number of those that closed in positive territory (950), and the quotes of 77 shares remained virtually unchanged. On the NASDAQ stock exchange, 2,212 companies fell in price, 1,362 rose, and 131 remained at the level of the previous close.

The CBOE Volatility Index, which is based on S&P 500 options trading, fell 2.18% to 13.88.

Gold futures for August delivery lost 1.16%, or 22.85, to hit $1.00 a troy ounce. In other commodities, WTI crude for August delivery fell 0.95%, or 0.68, to $71.25 a barrel. Brent crude for August delivery fell 0.26%, or 0.20, to $75.89 a barrel.

Meanwhile, in the forex market, the EUR/USD pair remained unchanged 0.04% to 1.09, while USD/JPY fell 0.44% to hit 141.37.

Futures on the USD index rose 0.27% to 102.11.
