Indonesia's exports declined at a less-than-expected rate in September, figures from Statistics Indonesia showed on Tuesday.

Exports fell 5.74 percent year-on-year in September. Economists had expected a 6.5 percent decrease.

Imports declined 2.41 percent annually in September compared to the forecast of 5.5 percent fall.

On a monthly basis, exports dropped 1.29 percent in September, while imports rose 0.63 percent.

The trade balance showed a deficit of $160.5 million in September compared to a $346.2 million surplus in the same month last year. Economists had expected a surplus of $124.0 million.
