Taiwan's economic growth moderated in the three months ended March, preliminary estimate from the Directorate General of Budget, Accounting & Statistics (DGBAS) showed Friday.

Real gross domestic product advanced 3.04 percent year-over-year in the first quarter, slower than the 3.28 percent rise in the third quarter. Economists had expected the growth to ease to 3.20 percent.

On the expenditure side, real private final consumption grew 3.02 percent annually in the March quarter, while gross capital formation declined by 1.70 percent.

Both exports and imports climbed by 6.03 percent and 5.61 percent, respectively.

On a quarter-on-quarter seasonally-adjusted annualized basis, GDP expanded at a slower pace of 1.32 percent in the first quarter, following a 4.34 percent growth in the December quarter.
