2026.09.1819:30:00UTC+00CFTC Data Shows Slight Dip in U.S. Crude Oil Speculative Net Longs

Speculative net positions in U.S. crude oil futures posted a marginal decline, according to the latest figures from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) updated on 18 September 2026. Net long positions slipped to 135.9K contracts, down from the previous level of 136.6K.

The small decrease suggests that speculative traders remain broadly constructive on crude oil, with only a modest reduction in bullish exposure. While the shift is not large enough to signal a pronounced change in sentiment, it may indicate a degree of caution among market participants as they reassess positioning against the backdrop of evolving supply-demand dynamics and macroeconomic conditions.

With net speculative length still holding near recent levels, investors will watch upcoming data releases and market developments closely to see whether this minor pullback marks the start of a more sustained repositioning or simply a short-term adjustment in crude oil futures exposure.
