2018.06.0404:40:00UTC+00Summit with North Korea’s Kim Back on, Says Trump

Following a meeting with a senior diplomat from Pyongyang, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that a planned summit with North Korea's leader Kim Jong Un will proceed as originally scheduled on June 12 in Singapore.

The announcement comes a week after Trump announced his withdrawal from the historic meeting.

North Korean envoy General Kim Yong-chol, hand-delivered a letter from Kim to President Trump. The North Korean official visited Washington a day after he met U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in New York.

According to Trump, the letter was interesting despite not opening it. He added that the topic of officially concluding the Korean War would be a point of discussion in Singapore.

The Wall Street Journal reported, citing a knowledgeable source, that the letter expressed Kim's interest in meeting without promising any major concessions or threats with regards to denuclearization.

The U.S. leader warned that the summit might not clinch a final agreement with regards to North Korea's contentious nuclear programme.
