News:

  • Japanese Finance Minister Yoshihiko Noda says on Friday, the cooling of relations between Japan and China on Japan's detention of a Chinese fishing boat captain would not just be bad for Japan but also for China.
  • Noda, speaking to reporters after a cabinet meeting, also said that excessive and disorderly forex moves are undesirable and Japan's government will take firm measures pertaining to the currency when needed.
  • Japan's finmin, Noda denied to comment any further on currency issues pertaining to the yuan specifically.
  • Noda also denied comments on possible forex intervention talks held between US President Barack Obama and Japan Prime Minister Naoto Kan, at the sidelines of UN General Assembly.
  • Japan intervened in the currency market on Sept. 15 by selling yen for the first time in more than six years to curb the yen's rise to a 15-year high against the dollar possibly derailing Japan's economy and worsening deflation.
