Canadian stocks were poised for a quiet open Wednesday, as Toronto's main index was set to challenge record highs.

The TSX Composite Index was near 15,900, on the verge of February's all-time peak.

In corporate news, noted investor Marc Faber has left the board of assett manager Sprott Inc. (SII.TO) amid uproar over his remarks that "the U.S. would look like Zimbabwe" if it had been settled by black people instead of whites.

Corus (CRE.TO) earnings were up 15.7 percent to $28.9 million in the fourth quarter ended Aug. 31.

The American Petroleum Institute reported Tuesday that U.S. crude supplies dropped by 7.1 million barrels for the week ended Oct. 13. Crude oil was up a few cents near $52.
