The euro was struggling near 11-year troughs early Monday as investors braced for the European Central Bank’s boldest steps to counter deflation and revitalize the eurozone economy.

The 18-nation currency ended at $1.1561, not far from a low of $1.14595 reached Friday. Against the Japanese yen, the currency was at ¥135.71, close to a three-month trough of ¥134.70.

Versus the Canadian dollar, the currency stayed within 16-month low of C$1.3749 hit Friday. It also struggled near a four-month low versus the Australian dollar and the New Zealand dollar.

Since the Swiss National Bank’s abrupt policy U-turn, the Swiss franc stabilized around 0.99365 francs per euro.
