Household spending in Sweden increased by 0.7% month-on-month in August 2026, the same pace as in July. Outlays accelerated for transportation (2.1% vs 0.1% in July), housing and utilities (0.4% vs 0.1%), and recreation, sports, and culture (0.5% vs 0.1%). Spending also rebounded in several categories, including clothing and footwear (1.1% vs -0.6%), furnishings, household equipment, and routine home maintenance (5.4% vs -1.3%), healthcare (0.4% vs -0.7%), information and communication (1.2% vs -1.5%), restaurants and accommodation (1.7% vs -0.2%), and personal care, social protection, and other miscellaneous goods and services (2.4% vs -2.3%).

By contrast, spending declined on food and non-alcoholic beverages (-0.1% vs 0.4%) and on alcoholic beverages, tobacco, and drugs (-3.4% vs 1.0%). On an annual basis, household consumption rose by 4.0% in August 2026, maintaining its fastest growth rate since May 2022 and matching the pace recorded in the previous two months.
