2026.09.1606:00:00UTC+00UK Input PPI Swings Back to Inflation in August, Ending July’s Decline

Producer price pressures at the factory gate turned positive in the United Kingdom in August 2026, with input prices rising 0.3% month-over-month, according to data updated on 16 September 2026. This marks a sharp reversal from July 2026, when input prices fell by 0.8% on the month.

The input Producer Price Index (PPI) measures the change in costs that manufacturers pay for goods and raw materials. On a month-over-month basis, August’s “actual” reading of 0.3% reflects the change from July to August, while the “previous” figure of -0.8% captured the shift from June to July. The move from negative to positive territory suggests that cost pressures in the production pipeline have started to pick up again after a brief period of deflation in input prices.

While the data do not reveal the underlying drivers of the rebound, the shift is likely to draw attention from analysts monitoring how producer-level costs may filter through to broader inflation in the coming months. For now, the August reading signals that the easing in input costs seen in July was short-lived, with manufacturers again facing modestly rising prices for their inputs.
