Poland’s industrial output contracted by 1.5% year-on-year in January 2026, a sharp reversal from the 7.3% increase recorded in December and well below market expectations for a 2.4% rise. Production declined notably in the manufacturing sector (-3.2% vs +7.9% in December 2025). At the same time, output growth moderated in mining and quarrying (5.5% vs 7.0%) and in water supply, sewerage, waste management, and remediation activities (3.2% vs 10.9%). By contrast, output in electricity, gas, steam, and air-conditioning rebounded strongly, jumping 18.7% after a 2.6% decline in the previous month. On a month-on-month basis, total industrial production fell by 6.0% in January, following a 0.1% decrease in December.
