Japanese stocks pushed higher in early Thursday trading action in the wake of the U.S. Federal Reserve's decision to keep its bond-purchasing program intact. The Nikkei Stock Average skyrocketed 172 points, or 1.2%, to 14,677.80. Shares of most exporters stepped up although the yen empowers against the U.S. dollar after the Fed's declaration. Toyota Motor Corp. shares rallied 0.3%, Toshiba Corp. traded 1.2% higher and Olympus Corp. edged up 1%. In other actions, stock in Astellas Pharma Inc. shed 0.6% after the Nikkei newspaper stated that the Astellas's president recently told the newspaper that heavy R&D spending and the spread of generic drugs will likely result in its missing an operating profit target of 226 billion yen for fiscal 2014.
