Asian stocks dropped for a fourth consecutive day on Chinese manufacturing data indicating contraction spurring concern over growth of the global economy.

The MSCI Asia Pacific Index shed 0.2% to 140.11 in Hong Kong.

Chinese stocks dropped for a fifth consecutive day after manufacturing measures indicated a contraction for Asia’s biggest economy.

The Shanghai Composite Index shed 2.6% to 3,128.30 at the end of trade. The CSI 300 Index fell by 2.3%. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng China Enterprises Index tumbled by 1.2%. The Hang Seng Index sank by 0.1%.

 Japan’s Nikkei 225 Index plummeted by 0.66% or 116.35 points to 17,558.04 while South Korea’s KOSPI Index added 0.18% or 3.42 points to 1,952.68.
