Brazil’s total outstanding loan portfolio increased 0.4% month over month in February 2026, reaching R$7.1 trillion. Household credit expanded 0.6%, while corporate credit remained stable, with respective balances of R$4.5 trillion and R$2.7 trillion.

Credit using free resources edged up 0.1% on the month and 7.7% over 12 months, totaling R$4.1 trillion. Within this segment, free credit to companies fell 0.3% compared with January but rose 0.9% year over year, to R$1.6 trillion. Free credit to households increased 0.3% on the month and 12.6% on the year, reaching R$2.5 trillion.

Directed credit reached R$3.1 trillion, up 0.8% on the month and 12.2% over 12 months. Directed credit to businesses advanced 0.6% month over month and 17.7% year over year, to R$1.1 trillion. Directed credit to households grew 0.9% on the month and 9.5% over 12 months, totaling R$2.0 trillion.

On a 12‑month basis, overall credit growth eased to 9.6% in February, from 10.1% in January.
