27.08.202601:35:18UTC+00Australia Building Capex Rebounds in Q2

In Australia, private new capital expenditure on buildings and structures rose by 2.1% quarter-on-quarter in Q2 2026, easing from a downwardly revised 3.3% increase in Q1. The expansion was underpinned by ongoing investment in data centre construction to boost capacity, as well as the commencement of new renewable energy projects.

By industry, spending on buildings and structures increased in information media and telecommunications (17.7%), professional, scientific and technical services (17.2%), electricity, gas, water and waste services (7.8%), health care and social assistance (4.4%), rental, hiring and real estate services (2.3%), and manufacturing (1.5%).

These gains were partly offset by sharp declines in construction (-42.5%), wholesale trade (-22.4%), and financial and insurance services (-21.4%). On an annual basis, private new capital expenditure on buildings and structures grew by 3.8%.
