12.11.202505:44:50UTC+00India–US Air Cargo Plunges to 9-Year Low

The air cargo trade between India and the United States has hit its lowest point in nine years due to significant tariff increases imposed by the administration of Donald Trump. The Times of India, referencing official statistics, reported this decline. According to data from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, India exported 4,319 tonnes of goods to the United States from January to June 2025, a notable drop from 7,152 tonnes during the same timeframe the previous year. Even amid the pandemic years of 2020 to 2023, cargo volumes managed to remain within the range of 5,000 to 9,000 tonnes. The last comparable dip in India-US trade occurred in 2016, when volumes were recorded at 3,750 tonnes. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump recently announced plans to reduce the high tariffs imposed on India, signaling potential progress towards resolving the trade tensions that have strained relations between the two nations in recent months.
